Questionnaire for Evaluation

I decided to produce a questionnaire after finishing my music video. I thought this would be helpful when completing the evaluation questions, I can then see if the video was successful and achieved the intention I wanted to create.

1.What do you think the main message of the music video is? - I decided to choose this for my first question, as it is vital that the audience understands the meaning of the video. If they dont understand the narrative it won't produce the effect the video is meant to create, which is to highlight the reality of the effects of cancer, and the strong relationships that get ruined because of it.

The second question asks the audience the emotion that the actor is portraying throughout the video, again this is important as the intended emotion is sad and was important for the actor to get that across. There are also emotions of happiness involved in the video, this highlights the relationship between the two sisters in the video and the happy moments they shared.

The third question asks whether they enjoyed the video, this is an important question to ask as although the video is sad and is menat to be emotional, it's purpose is to be enjoyable for the audience and to leave them walking away thinking about the video.

The next question asks about what the audience would change, it is important to recieve constructive critisism from the audience as it then will help me in the future if completing this task again. It makes me realise what I could of improved and what the audience sees from their prospective.

The final question asks the audience about the future of the song and whether they would be intersted in similar products like this. Again, this is an important question to finish the questionnaire with, it leaves me knowing whether the audience feels the product I created can go further.

Final Digipak All Together

I wanted to put the digpak all together to see what it looked like as a final product. I am happy with the way it looks, and can see an improvement from my first draft to the final. What I learnt from the first draft was that there was little colour, which was a danger as it could be seen as 'boring' and 'dull'. I then thought it was vital to include slight colour to attract the audience and create more interest.

Final Draft Back of Digipak

Above is the final draft of the back of the digipak, I am pleased with the outcome. I added colour to this as I thought it would then make the track names stand out. I maintained the colour scheme of grey and burgundy throughout the digipak, therefore it looks more professional. The track names are in capitals and isin the same font that I have used throughout the ancillary tasks, this shows the consistency of the product and with the use of capitals the traks stand out. The image I chose represents the artist looking natural in deep thought, with suggests the theme of the single 'Treasure Time'.

Final Draft Inside of Digipak

I chose this image for the Inside of the Digipak as it is a natural image of the artist playing on the piano. This image represents the type of artist that she is, that she is passionate about music, which is reinforced with her playing an instrument. I wanted to include some of the lyrics of the single written on the piano as I believe it looks effective and suggests that the lyrics comes from the music she plays. This is displayed in white, which stands out from the jet black piano.

Final Draft Front Page Digipak

Above is the front cover of the digipak. The image I chose is a close up, this focuses on the artists face, noticeably the artist is wearing minimal make up, this emphasises the type of artist that she is, that it is purely about the voice, not the looks. The name of the artist is located bottom right, I chosee this position as if I put it at the top it would distract the image of the artist. The name is in captials, which makes it stand out, and is in white against a light grey background, again the remains in a subtle colour scheme. If I completed this again, I would make the name in a burgundy colour font, this way it matches the magazine advertisement font.

Final Draft Magazine Advertisement

I am really pleased with the final draft of my magazine advertisement. I believe the colour scheme works well with the image. The magazine advertisement is simple, however effective. I have cleverly used the words to make sure that the title links with the artists name, and believe the advertisement would stand out for the audience, and fits in with the 'indie pop' genre too.

Another draft for Front Page

I really like this front page draft. I particularly like the image that I have edited, as it is totally different from any of the shots taken in the video. The background especially adds detail to the image, and fits into the 'indie-pop' genre; how it is outside against a 'dirty' wall. The angle of the shot again adds interest, and the hair blowing in the wind really makes the image look professional, but real.

Another Draft for Back of Digipak

I do quite like this draft for the back of the digipak. I like the image, with brands the artist as a down to earth girl. The image is also is a used shot take from the actual video. One thing I would like to change is the different colour of grey. I believe all the colours are quite bold, but dull. I need the digipak to attract the audience, therefore a lighter colour scheme is needed.

Another Draft of Magazine Advertisement

I like the image used for the Magazine advertisement, as it shares a connection with the front page of the digipak. I believe that is important as it continues to advertise the artist, and the audience will begin to recognise the artist. I may change the colour of the font for the advertisement, as I believe the font colour is quite light, which will not stand out for the audience.

Digpak all together first draft

I decided to put all the parts of the digipak together to see what it looks like as a 'whole'. What I can see is that there is limited amount of colour, especially the front page. The front page should be the most important page of the digipak, the white colour font clearly does not work, which I am ready to change. However, from putting all the digipak together, I can see the changes I need to make.

Another Draft Inside Digipak

I like this image, as I believe it is a natural image of the artist. This follows the convention of 'Ellie Gouldings' digipak, the fact she has an image showing her playing an instrument. It shows the artist as an actual musician, which is important for the audience to see. I have also used the chorus lyrics in the song 'Treasure Time', placed on the piano. I wanted to create this unusual effect, as it suggests that the instrument actually creates the music and the lyrics. Also, the audience can begin to learn the lyrics and recognise them too.

Back Page of Digipak Draft

Above is the first draft of the back page of the digipak. I like the structure of the track names, as I believe it fits in with the image. However, I believe the image looks rather dull, as there is little colour. For the next draft, I want to include more colour so it adds interest.

Inside Page Digipak Draft

Above is the first draft of the inside page of the digipak. I wanted the image to a natural shot of the artist in 'action'. This image represents how passionate the artist is about music and brands her as a singer/songwriter. I believe the image is quite plain, so for the next draft I intend to add more detail to the image.

Front Cover Digpak Draft

Above is the first draft of the Front cover of the digipak. I thought it was important to compare it to an existing real product of Ellie Goulding's digipak, this way I can see if it is conventional. Noticeably you can see that my first draft has little colour and the font is very light, making it difficult to see from the distant. Unlike, Ellie Goulding's product, the image is similar, however the font is bright making her product stand out. This suggests to me that I now need to add colour to my product to make it stand out.

Draft Magazine Advertisement

Here is my first draft of the Magazine Advertisement. I thought it was important to get an image of a 'real' magazine advertisement and compare the conventions. Luckily, I found the magazine advertisement of the Ellie Goulding, who I compare my artist to. Noticeably looking at the 'Ellie Goulding' advertisement, you can tell that it is quite simple, there is only one image displayed, I wanted to follow this convention. There is also little text on the Ellie Goulding advertisement, there is only the artists name and the name of her album, the colour of the font contrasts with the dark background. On my advertisement, I used the name of the artist at the top and the name of the album at the bottom. I chose to put the date of the release also on the advertisement, I felt it was important to display the date, as then the audience will know when the album is released. The colour of font on my advertisement is very dull, when I complete another draft, I want to add more colour, as nothing really stands out, and I believe it is important to make sure the advertisement is eye catching.

Digipak and Magazine Advertisement Photos

I took alot of different images for the ancillary tasks, so that I had a variety of images I could edit and pick the one that I wanted. I took alot so that I did not have to waste any time taking more pictures, I had alot to choose from. The images are taken from different locations, however the locations that will be used for the video, this was important as then there will be a clear relationship between the video and the advertisement. The different shots will add interest to the different advertisement tasks.

Images

Our original idea was to take pictures of the two sisters together and place a frame on the piano. The above images are the what we took, we plan to print one off and display it on the piano to represent the strong relationship.

Final Storyboard

It was important for me to complete a final storyboard, as I needed to plan ahead for the filming. I believe with the task, it was important for me to also keep on top of things, to make sure the product was successful. I added detailed notes underneath the drawings, so I knew exactly where the filming was going.

Final Storyboard Progression

The storyboard is significant in the process of filming. The images drew in each stage of the storyboard helps me know for filming how the shots are going to look at the different angles. It makes the video seem more real, and gives me a 100% guidance as to how the video is going to look, and how I am going to direct the shots.

Plan for Filming

It was important for me to create a 'Plan for Filming', as I needed to know how to structure the video and when I could start filming. The plan is against each verse of the song, this way I know how the video starts and finishes, and I will be able to see if it fits alol together and that there is a traditional start, middle and end.

Lyrics of the Song

I thought it was important to get the lyrics of the whole song printed. My reason for this was so I could start planning the shots for each verse and chorus. I wanted to achieve a strong narrative, therefore I had to carefully think about where the video was going with the structure. I could really think of the meaning the artist was trying to create, so I was doing the song justice.

Magazine Advertisement Plan

For the second part of the ancillary task I am going to be producing a magazine advertisement for the Digipak. I want to create a simple advertisement as the artist who we are advertising is an unknown artist, therefore I believe it should be simple but effective. The simplicity of the advertisement followed many conventions of the artist that I wanted to follow.

Digipak Template

Above is the Digpak template that I want to complete, I chose to do a four sided Digipak, as I believe the artist we have chosen is unknown therefore many people will not know much about her. I want to keep it simple and include basic material that would link in with the down to earth artist.
